OPEN CALL

CRIME STOP MURAL PROJECT

Kingston Creative, Crime Stop and the Canada Fund of Local Initiatives have issued an Open Call to Jamaican artists to submit designs for murals in the communities of Dunkirk, Rae Town, Rose Gardens. The theme is “Promoting Peace: Crime Reduction, Prevention & Conflict Resolution.”

Background

Kingston Creative is a registered non-profit organization founded in February 2017. Its mission is to enable Caribbean creatives to succeed so that they can create economic and social value, gain access to global markets and have a positive impact on their communities.

In 2018 Kingston Creative launched a project called Paint the City which seeks to develop Street Art Murals throughout Downtown Kingston, with the ultimate vision of making Downtown Kingston an Art District and Creative Hub in furtherance of the UNESCO Creative City designation. To date 63 murals have been created, two with Augmented Reality (AR) functionality.

Crime Stop Jamaica has partnered with Canada Fund of Local Initiatives and Kingston Creative for the creation of a mural as a part of their new campaign that calls for the promotion of peace and conflict resolution.

Crime Stop is a partnership between the community, the police and the media designed to involve the public in the fight against crime. Crime Stop encourages the public to give information by offering total anonymity to all callers and, for those who wish, a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest, recovery of stolen property or the seizure of illegal drugs or guns. The programme is administered by the National Crime Prevention Fund and is run under the direction of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ).

Their mission is to assist in the detection, reduction and prevention of crime through offering the most secure avenue for citizens to give information anonymously on all forms of crime. Crime Stop Jamaica is the preferred channel for citizens to use in providing information anonymously about crimes.
