Community based Organization: Art Evolution
The community based organization Art Evolution, led by artist Lifechild and IT specialist Wonnakey Amos, conceptualized the transformation of Barry Street, between South Camp Road and Fleet Street. Having witnessed the troublesome past of warfare and violence in the community of South Side, the two knew that beautification with a healing theme would make a difference. Kingston Creative teamed up with Art Evolution and spent a long weekend with 25 artists, and 6 painters and assistants from the community and expressed their idea of healing in art. Art Evolution also prepared the walls and curated the large team.
About the Artists
24 Jamaican artists and 1 artist from Belgium set an example in teamwork and collaboration. They were faced with two long walls and each came with their own design idea. Together they blended, and fused and coloured until Barry Street became an Allee of artistic expression.
The artists included students from Edna Manley of the Arts, from first to fourth year, high school students, experienced fine artists and community mural artistspainters.
